Digby: clueless to the nth order

Well, it only took a few weeks for the lightning fast Digby to rewrite Garance Franke-Ruta's American Prospect article on the great big scary Republican message machine that is the blogosphere. If he added any original thought, it might be worth responding to at length - but as it stands, so do these previous posts at RedState: (link) (link) (link)
Actually, one point:
Because of these sucesses, some progressives believed that the recent efforts by Republican members of the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) to regulate blogs as paid political speech may have been motivated by partisanship. As it turns out, the new proposed FEC rule changes, still subject to public comment, continue to exempt blogs from regulation.
This I call idiocy with extreme prejudice. 1) the "efforts" at the FEC were the result of the Democratic members failure to appeal a judges ruling. The original exemption for the internet passed with the votes of all three Republicans and one common sense Democrat who has since left the Commission. 2) "continue to exempt blogs" - well, I suppose I can't blame him for not reading the draft rule, nor the commentary surrounding it. After all, he's just a citizen journalist, not an "evil insider."
Update [2005-4-13 16:4:38 by krempasky]: Damn. Just when I thought I was out...
...the right-wing blogosphere has also recently become useful to long-established political operatives such as Morton Blackwell, mentor to iconic GOP campaign strategists Karl Rove and Lee Atwater.
Yeah, sure Digby - Morton is really active on this ol' blogosphere. I'm sure that would come as news to him and everyone who knows him. And when you consider us here at RedState as part of the top-down Republican machine, it only proves you don't read what we actually write.

I figured that observers would see the distinction between right and left blogs due to the current political power situation in Washington.
Right blogs are looking at expanding control, pushing an agenda, and securing a political future.
Left blogs are looking to halt, stifle, and slow the Republican agenda at the same time they are plotting to redefine the party in hopes they can capture control of one wing of the House.
Like the differences between US and European foreign policy, right and left blogs are building houses with different tools available too them.
krempasky: Yikes. I just sufferred through the entire Franke-Ruta piece from March 4. My favorite part is where she lays the claim that conservative military veterans and political veterans aren't citizens.
Which brings us back to Jordan. He was brought down not by outraged citizen-bloggers but by a mix of GOP operatives and military conservatives.
Somebody likely already sent this email to Franke-Ruta, but Eason Jordan brought down Eason Jordan.
has come about because of a C-Span program this morning which caught my eye. I am disturbed and concerned that Congress and/or the FEC may seek to impose still more "regulation" on the blogosphere which, I insist, should NOT be regulated by any level of government. Anyone have any suggestions as to how we can prevent this from happening?
First, I highly recommend bookmarking fec.redstate.org for all your FEC-related needs.
Second - call your congressman and tell him to support Jeb Hensarling's Online Freedom of Speech Act (HR 1606)

....that the conclave is at 9pm this evening.
