"Crap heads" cry foul over Coburn comment.A story on the website of KFOR, the NBC affiliate in Oklahoma City, claims that the Oklahoma Democratic Party chairman is looking for an apology from Republican U.S. Senate candidate Tom Coburn for a comment he made about people in Western Oklahoma.
Here's the supposed exchange:
Coburn: You're saying a federal program for southeast Oklahoma?
Male: Southwest, yes.
Coburn: Southwest Oklahoma?
Male: We don't care about the easterners.
Coburn: You don't care about the northwest either? Look, economic development in southwest Oklahoma is a federal role. Do you really believe that?
Male: To some extent, yes sir.
Coburn: Why?
Male: Uh, because the development that we need is above our means.
Coburn: No, it's not. It's because you have a bunch of crapheads in Oklahoma City that have killed the vision of anyone wanting to invest in Oklahoma.
Now, having spent some of my childhood growing up in Oklahoma, I can easily identify with the tension and bitterness behind this exchange. See, there is a fierce rivalry that exists in Oklahoma, and I'm not talking about the Bedlam Series, I'm talking about Tulsa vs. Oklahoma City. In Okie, it's T-town vs. The City, and it's just as rough and tumble as any OSU vs. OU football game. Just as many people in the state divide into the Orange and Crimson camps, those residents from Tulsa and the surrounding eastern half of the state despise everyone from the Oklahoma City and the western side of the state.
You saw it in the primary for this very race, Kirk Humphrey's, the candidate from The City and Tom Coburn, Champion of the East! I, for several reasons, was glad to see the Dr. win. Now I know that T-town's side of the state will have a strong, conservative voice like Coburn's in DC once he trounces Brad Carson in November.
Dr. Coburn, you're right... they are crapheads!
O State!!!

Emphasis mine. This man is the first politician from Oklahoma that I have felt passionate about. He's true conservative McCain-like maverick. He's says what he means. And I don't expect an apology, it's not his style.
